Merivale High School can also be known as “The Little School that Could!” Over the past 51 years, Merivale’s student population has moved from 900 to 1600 to 1200, back to 1400 and since 2003; the population has declined because of additional schools being built in the suburbs.
Through all these changes, Merivale has still continued to offer a wide variety of activities, arts programs, athletics, and of course a strong Academic Program for students heading to University with multiple scholarships, and for students bound for the workplace with a solid background in Technology from the shops at the school.
The continuation of Merivale’s successes is by large part due to the dedication of the staff members in the school who have created a family-like atmosphere that continues to this day.
Most recently Merivale Students organized the school’s first Relay for Life in support of the Canadian Cancer Society. This small school of 616 students worked hard and raised over $30,000 for adult and pediatric cancer research. Merivale teams consistently become city finalists, our bands get Silver or Gold in Music Fest and we have the city of Ottawa’s only Graphic Design Specialist High Skills Major which produces students who get into the prestigious Ontario College of Art and Design and the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, among others.
Merivale students are diverse, warm and friendly and welcome new students regularly. As members of the International Certificate Program, Merivale also regularly hosts students from other countries who come for short or long term stays at the school.
Come check us out, we look forward to meeting you!
