Principal's Message

Welcome to Merivale High School, a vibrant community school offering programs for students in grades 7-12! Our school community works together to provide the best possible learning environment for students and staff.

At Merivale, we are proud of the opportunities we provide to students to grow and develop to their fullest potential. Our school offers challenging programs in Academics, the Arts, and Athletics. We care about our community, within and beyond the school walls.  It is through our interests that we often find our futures. Big becomes small when you get involved!

Our Merivale community is built on RESPECT for ourselves, our classmates, our staff, and our school. Our students embody the OCDSB exit outcomes and character traits that will serve them well throughout their lives. Merivale students are diverse, caring and friendly, and welcome new students regularly.

Much of Merivale’s success is due to the dedication of the school staff who have created a caring atmosphere beginning over 50 years ago that continues to this day. Our staff are dedicated professionals who are committed to support our students, both within and beyond the classroom, and who also volunteer with school teams, clubs, and initiatives.

Merivale students, staff, and our community are engaged in giving back. The school is active with many charitable efforts which are indicative of our local and global citizenship and sense of community. Merivale teams consistently become city finalists, our bands earn Silver or Gold in Music Fest and we host a Specialist High Skills Major: Communication Design program, from which our students gain sector-specific experiences, certification, and learning opportunities that enrich their post-secondary opportunities.

In June, 2019, Merivale HS became an authorized IB World School for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. Merivale is proud to recognize our first cohort to earn their IB Diploma, the Class of 2023!

Merivale HS has made many improvements across the school and campus over the past six years. We thank all of our families, students, staff, and neighbours for their support and encouragement as this work took place over a multi-year period. It was worth the effort!

We are proud of the academic diversity we offer, and look forward to meeting you!

Sincerely,

Jean Fulton-Hale
