Principal's Message

Welcome to Merivale High School, a vibrant community school offering programs for students in grades 7-12!

While we have had to make some adjustments to how we operate for 2020-21, our school community is working together to provide the best possible learning environment for students and staff.

At Merivale, we are proud of the opportunities we provide to students to grow and develop to their fullest potential. Our school offers challenging programs in Academics, the Arts and Athletics. We care about our community, within and beyond the school walls.  It is through our interests that we often find our futures. Big becomes small when you get involved!

Our Merivale community is built on RESPECT for ourselves, our classmates, our staff, and our school. Our students embody the OCDSB exit outcomes and character traits that will serve them well throughout their lives. Merivale students are diverse, warm and friendly and welcome new students regularly.

Much of Merivale’s success is due to the dedication of the staff members in the school who have created a family-like atmosphere beginning over 50 years ago that continues to this day. Our staff are caring professionals who are committed to supporting our students both within and beyond the classroom and who also volunteer with school teams, clubs, and initiatives.

Merivale students, staff and our community are engaged in giving back. The school is active with many charitable efforts which are indicative of our local and global citizenship and sense of community. Merivale teams consistently become city finalists, our bands earn Silver or Gold in Music Fest and we host the OCDSB's Graphic Design Specialist High Skills Major, from which our students gain sector-specific experiences, certification and learning opportunities that enrich their post-secondary opportunities.

In June, 2019, Merivale HS became an authorized IB World School for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. We are delighted to welcome our first cohort of grade 9 pre-diploma students for the 2019-20 academic year.  Following the decisions of OCDSB Trustees in June, 2018, Merivale will transition to a full-year schedule for all grade 9 students in September 2019, and will implement this timetable structure for all grades over a three year period.

Merivale HS has completed construction for our second gymnasium and has made many other improvements across the school. We thank all of our families, students, staff, and neighbours for their support and encouragement as this work took place over a two year period. It was worth the effort!

We are proud of the academic diversity we offer, and look forward to meeting you!
