IB Diploma Programme & General Information
Program Description
The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) is a two-year educational Programme primarily serving students 15 to 18 years old. The Programme provides an internationally accepted qualification for entry into higher education and is recognized by colleges and universities worldwide. All successful candidates for the IB Diploma also meet all requirements for the Ontario Secondary School Diploma.
Success in the IBDP at Merivale HS requires time management, self-motivation, organization, commitment and interest. Students must be able to balance their academic responsibilities with participation in extracurricular activities and community service. IB students are those who are willing to rise to the challenge of an international program and in meeting that challenge grow into young adults ready for the challenges of post-secondary education and beyond.
IB World Schools share a common philosophy—a commitment to improve the teaching and learning of a diverse and inclusive community of students by delivering challenging, high quality programmes of international education that share a powerful vision.
IB Mission Statement
The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment. These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.
